Discover Zen Yoga and Japanese Tea Culture in Kyoto’s Temple

If you are visiting Japan and looking for a peaceful cultural experience, our Zen yoga session at a Kyoto temple -Myoshin ji- is a perfect way to connect with both your body and spirit.

The other day, a lovely couple from Portugal joined our temple session and enjoyed a moment of deep mindfulness surrounded by the quiet beauty of Japanese Zen.

Experience Zen and Japanese Culture

During the session, we introduced the spirit of Zen, a way of finding calm and awareness in the present moment. We also shared how deeply tea and sweets are connected to Japanese hospitality and mindfulness.

In Japan, tea is more than just a drink — it is a way to express peace, respect, and connection.

The Meaning of “Wa-Kei-Sei-Jaku” — The Spirit of the Tea Ceremony

The heart of the Japanese tea ceremony is captured in four words:
Wa-Kei-Sei-Jaku (和敬清寂) — Harmony, Respect, Purity, and Tranquility.

It teaches us to create a peaceful moment together, even among strangers, through simple acts like sharing tea.

Kinako Roasted Soybeans – A Taste of Japanese Wellness

To complete the experience, guests also enjoyed Kinako Roasted Soybeans, a traditional Japanese sweet that symbolizes health and longevity.

Made from roasted soybeans coated with fragrant kinako powder, this treat has been loved since ancient times. In Japan, soybeans are often eaten during seasonal festivals to drive away evil spirits and invite happiness.

With their gentle sweetness and nutty flavor, Kinako Roasted Soybeans represent a wish for a healthy, peaceful life — a perfect example of Japanese wellness culture.
